Financial Support for Young People

At Bolton College, we offer a number of financial support services for students who are struggling financially, to help them cover the costs of coming to College.

  • Free Travel

    Young People aged 16-18 receive a free 'Our Pass' card, which will allow you to travel around Greater Manchester via bus, anytime, free of charge! 
    For a one-off £10 administration free, the pass unlocks potential savings of over £500! The pass is valid seven days per week and has absolutely no time restrictions, which makes it great not just for getting to and from College or work, but also going out with friends and taking part in new activities across Greater Manchester.

  • Free Daily Breakfast

    No more forgetting to have breakfast! All of our learners will receive complimentary free breakfast daily from September 2019. Cereal or toast and a hot drink will get you ready for the day ahead.
  • Free Course Equipment

    We provide all of our Beauty Therapy and Hairdressing, Barbering & Make-up students with free kits, essential to their training, worth up to £370.

     

    All of our construction students receive a free CSCS card, which is essential for construction site work.

  • Student Support Allowance

    These are available to young people who are one of the following:

    • Aged between 16-18 on or before the 31st August

    • In receipt of Income Support or Universal Credit in your own right

    • In receipt of Employment Support Allowance and either Disability Living Allowance or Personal Independence Payments (PIP)

    What will I get on this bursary?

    • Receive up to £33 per week during term-time paid into your bank account

    • The costs of essential equipment will be refunded to you

    • FREE lunch for each day you study in College

    Payment is based on full attendance at College.

  • Discretionary Bursaries

    These are available for young people who:

    • Are struggling to meet the costs of attending College

    • Come from a home where the family household income is no more than £22,000 per year

    • Have 90%+ attendance at college

     

    What will I get on this bursary?

    • The costs of essential equipment will be refunded to you

    • You'll receive help with the cost of your travel if you live more than 2.5km from the College Campus

    • If you live in Greater Manchester and travel to College via public transport, we request that you
      purchase a 16-18 Get Me There Card and we'll pay for your return journeys to College

    • If you live outside Greater Manchester, we'll agree with you the cost of your travel to College and contribute to this
