Nine Bolton College Motor Vehicle students downed tools last week, visiting a Bolton College Apprentice in the workplace to discover exactly what Apprenticeships are about.

Olivia Preston is an Apprentice Motor Vehicle Technician at RRG’s Lexus Bolton Centre, just one of the 23 centres / Accident Repair Centres owned by the RRG Group, one of the most successful car dealership groups in Northern England.

Bolton College’s Motor Vehicle Academy is supported by the RRG Group, so students were invited into the centre to visit Olivia at work and, whilst they were there, take a tour of the high-spec workshop and showroom.

Olivia, 18, chatted to the students about her role and said: “I’m very happy and content at the RRG Group, I couldn’t wish to start my career with a better company.”

“I’m working with a very experienced team and I have a mentor who’s helping me throughout the Apprenticeship.”

“RRG group are passionate about supporting staff to progress in their careers; eventually, I want to be a Master Technician, and there are strategies in place to help me to achieve this.”

“I’d 100% recommend an Apprenticeship – it’s one of the best things I’ve ever done.”

Stephen Perry, Group Recruitment Specialist for the RRG Group, also chatted to the students and said: “There are multiple Apprenticeship opportunities at the RRG Group beyond the workshop, so I enjoyed enlightening the students on the possible career paths they could pursue.”

“We love working with Bolton College, and have a strong relationship, so we were pleased to welcome the students to our centre and hope that on completion of their studies, a few will be joining us.”

Peter Alstead, Head of Engineering & Motor Vehicle at Bolton College, added: “Yet again, the RRG Group have offered us a fantastic opportunity, bringing learning to life for our Motor Vehicle students.”

“They were very impressed by the visit; it’s given them something to aspire to. I’d like to thank the RRG Group for the opportunity and for making us feel so welcome.”
