Overview of the course
This course will benefit anyone who wants to develop parenting and life skills, as it will stimulate interest and encourage understanding of the skills required to care for children.
The programme has been designed to help you understand the basic requirements of the Childcare sector, giving you the skills to progress to further study, then Higher Education or employment.
Engaging with employers is also an integral part of this programme – we’ll seek to ensure that you have opportunities to gain real-world experience of your chosen sector.
What you'll learn

• Safeguarding the Welfare of Children & Young People
• Craft Activities for Young Children
• Human Growth & Development
• Respecting & Valuing Children
Five GCSEs at grades 2 or above, including Maths and English Language.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed by your tutor through coursework and classroom projects.
Is there anything else I need to know?
You will be required to obtain a DBS to show you do not have a criminal record and are safe to work with children. College will help you to submit this. There is no fee for your DBS.

After you have completed the course, you’ll have the opportunity to progress to further study at College including the Skills to a T Level 2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner. Following this, you may decide to move on to employment, university, or explore the possibility of doing a Higher Apprenticeship (Level 4).
Following further study you could work as a:
• Children’s Nurse, earning up to £38,000 per year
• Social Worker, earning up to £40,000 per year
• A Primary Teacher, earning up to £40,000 per year
