    The Assistant Accountant Level 3 Apprenticeship is ideal for individuals looking to build a career in accounting and finance. This programme provides the knowledge and practical experience needed to support financial activities within a business, including preparing financial statements, managing budgets, and handling accounts.

    As an apprentice, you’ll be employed while studying, allowing you to earn a wage and gain valuable workplace experience.

  • What you'll learn

    You’ll gain a solid understanding of accounting principles and practices, including double-entry bookkeeping, financial reporting, and the use of accounting software. You’ll also learn about ethical standards, business awareness, and how to work effectively within a finance team.

    In addition to technical skills, you’ll develop communication, problem-solving, and analytical abilities that are essential for progressing in the finance sector.
  • Entry requirements

    Employers may also look for candidates with a Level 2 Accounts or Finance Assistant qualification or relevant experience in a finance-related role. A keen interest in numbers, accuracy, and organisation is essential.

    You’ll usually need GCSEs at grade 4/C or above in English and Maths. However, if you do not already hold these qualifications, you will be required to work towards and achieve Functional Skills Level 2 in English and Maths as part of your apprenticeship.
  • How will I be assessed?

    Your progress will be assessed throughout the apprenticeship through a combination of workplace observations, assignments, and a portfolio of evidence. You’ll receive regular feedback and support from your college tutor and employer.

    At the end of the programme, you’ll complete an End Point Assessment (EPA). This includes a structured interview, a review of your portfolio, and a knowledge test to confirm your competence and readiness to work independently as an Assistant Accountant.

All Apprenticeships are employer led, and as well as providing long term earnings, they also give you the ability to progress.

    • You’ll earn a wage as you’re learning and are entitled to paid holidays
    • You can earn 10% more after studying on a Level 3 Apprenticeship than if you went straight in to work
    • 90% of apprentices remain in employment, either with their current employer or another company
    • 85% of employers participate in Apprenticeship programmes and consider them a good thing
    • You can train to post graduate level without incurring any university fees

    If you’re interested in this apprenticeship, the first step is to register your interest with Bolton College. This will add you to our mailing list so we can keep you informed about any upcoming apprenticeship vacancies or employer opportunities in your chosen field.

    To begin the apprenticeship, you’ll need to secure employment with an organisation willing to support you as an apprentice. While it is your responsibility to find and apply for suitable roles, Bolton College is here to help. We have a dedicated Job Shop located within the college, where you can meet with an Employer Engagement Advisor for tailored support and advice on how to apply for vacancies and prepare for interviews.

  • Future opportunities

    After completing this apprenticeship, you could progress to the Level 4 Professional Accounting Technician Apprenticeship or pursue further qualifications such as AAT Level 4 or ACCA. With experience, you could move into roles such as Finance Officer, Management Accountant, or Payroll Manager.

    This apprenticeship provides a strong foundation for a long-term career in accounting and finance, with opportunities across a wide range of industries.
