Overview of the course
Our Apprenticeship programmes will give you vital hands-on experience, learning from real life situations, with the guidance of industry professionals. You’ll gain the skills and confidence needed to excel in your chosen career.
If you’re good with numbers and enjoy managing your finances, then an Accounting Apprenticeship could be for you.
Training in accountancy would enable you to work across a range of sectors. Depending on what the client needs, you could audit accounts, forecast future profits or calculate tax. Working in finance provides the chance to make a real difference to business performance.
The course is a great way to build on your skills and gain a recognised qualification whilst also earning a salary.

What you'll learn
Mandatory units:
• Management Accounting: Budgeting
• Management Accounting: Decision and Control
• Financial Statements of Limited Companies
• Accounting Systems and Controls
Optional units (must complete 2 out of the 5):
• Cash and Treasury Management
• Credit Management
• Personal Tax
• Business Tax
• External Auditing
If necessary, you will also complete Functional Skills Maths and English at Level 2.
We encourage English and Maths study to Level 3 if required for your chosen HE course or career.
Most of your qualification will be gained in the workplace, although you will attend sessions in College that will cover essential areas of your training.
During your Apprenticeship, you will be taught and supported by experienced accounting tutors. You will also have your own Work Based Tutor who will provide support and guidance during your time in the workplace.

Entry requirements
You must have completed the AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting in order to be accepted onto the Level 4 Accounting Apprenticeship.
To complete an Apprenticeship you will need an employer who is willing to support you throughout your training. If you have not found one, we can help you with your search.
We’d like to see a proven track record of very good attendance at work/school, along with a good reference from school/a previous employer. We also ask that you have a satisfactory level of English and maths.

How will I be assessed?
You’ll be assessed flexibly, both in the workplace and at College, through:
• Oral/written questions
• Assignments
• Practical work
You will complete AAT online assessments at the end of each unit.
As an Apprentice you will be required to attend and participate in an End Point Assessment. Your tutor, assessor and employer will fully support you to ensure you are prepared and ready to attend this.

Future opportunities
Alongside your studies, you’ll have a unique opportunity to be part of the University of Bolton’s EXCEED programme.
This will give you a range of additional skills and experiences, and includes masterclasses; university visits; access to industry experts; and mentoring and support with your university application, perfect for that next step into Higher Education.
On successful completion of this Apprenticeship, you could progress onto full-time employment, professional job-specific qualifications, Higher Apprenticeships or a degree programme.
Following further study you could work as:
• A Management Accountant, earning up to £100,000 per year
• A Bookkeeper, earning up to £26,000 per year
• An Auditor, earning up to £80,000 per year
