Barbering Certificate Level 3

  • Overview of the course

    This intensive barbering course will enable you to develop essential skills and knowledge required by the barbering industry and is ideal if you wish to improve your business opportunities and increase your skill set. It will be suitable if you hold either Hairdressing Level 2 or Barbering Level 2 and/or have at least three years working in the industry.

    This course will be delivered in our state-of-the-art training room, The Academy, which includes five large air conditioned studios, all designed to provide realistic hairdressing/barbering working environments.

    You will enjoy and participate in a varied teaching and training programme and will be taught specialist skills and up-to-date techniques in creative cutting hair, cutting facial hair, shaving and facial massage.

    This course is ideal if you are enthusiastic and you hold a real passion for barbering, whilst wishing to progress towards senior level positions in the industry.

    You will work on clients in the realist college salon environment and whilst developing your creativity and vision.
  • What you'll learn

    The course consists of both practical and theoretical aspects of Barbering. You will study a variety of topics including:

    302 - Monitor and maintain health and safety practice in the salon
    303 - Consultation support for colleagues on hair services
    312 - Cut men's hair to create a variety of looks
    313 - Cut facial hair to create a variety of looks
    318 - Provide shaving and facial massage services
  • Entry requirements

    You will hold a Level 2 in barbering or hairdressing and/or have relevant experience working in a salon.

    You will need to sit a successful interview and provide good references.

    Creativity, self motivation, good communication skills and a strong commitment to achieve are keys to success at Level 3.

    A good record of attendance and punctuality will be required and you will need to be highly motivated with a will to succeed and an ability to work independently and as part of a team in the barbering workshop and salon.

    You must have good dexterity and a keen interest in barbering and be willing to practise your skills outside the college.

    Good levels of English (ESOL must be at least Level 2) are important and good communication / interpersonal skills are essential.

    A tunic and barbering kit are required for the practical salon.
  • How will I be assessed?

    You will be assessed on a continual basis in a flexible manner.

    Practical skills will be assessed on clients in a realistic working environment and oral questioning is also used.

    Theory assessments consist of online testing, assignments and portfolio work.
  • Is there anything else I need to know?

    This course is a 34 week programme and is delivered one evening per week.

    An essential part of this demanding course includes excellent attendance, a good record of punctuality and study, attendance at seminars, shows and competitions.

    You will be actively encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to enter internal and external hairdressing competitions including the BBA British Barbering Association competitions, prestigious World Skills and Wella Xxposure competitions, and GMCG competitions.

    You will also be expected to provide a Level 3 barbering kit (no electrical equipment) costing approx. £129.00, a salon tunic approx. £23, or a gents polo shirt approx. £12 and black full shoes .

    It is encouraged and recommended when possible you arrange your own models for assessment purposes.

    Your timetable will include Wednesday, 5.30pm-9pm.

    Coronavirus Update


    In response to the COVID-19 situation we have made a number of changes to our traditional admissions and enrolment processes.
    All conditional offers and enrolments are currently being processed based on the information available to us at the time of a telephone interview and/or online enrolment.
    Once a course starts and we are able to meet with learners in person we may need to alter the class an individual attends if they do not meet the course entry requirements. We will keep learners informed of any decision to alter their class and support them through any changes necessary.

    Assessment


    All learners will complete an individual learning plan which will be discussed with their tutor throughout the course.

    Financial


    You may not have to pay tuition fees at all, if you fall into one of the groups eligible for fee exemptions. If you feel you may be eligible or would like someone to explain course fees in more detail, pleasecontact us via our Live Chat service available on any page of our website.

    Adult Learners


    Adult learners (19+) must provide evidence of their existing qualification at enrolment. Learners may not be able to enrol if this information is not provided when requested. If you have lost any certificates please contact your school in the first instance. If they are unable to provide a copy, you can contact one of the following exam boards (your school will be able to tell you which one applies to the exams you took):

    Studying at College
