We all need to use maths every day, for that precious next job or to help your children with their homework etc. Our maths courses are FREE if you do not already have a C grade or above. We can help get you there.

You can study within your community or at our main campus and dates and times are flexible to suit your study time.

  • Why study GCSE Maths?

    GSCE Mathematics is necessary for many jobs or courses in Further Education. Having GCSE Maths will improve your job prospects and will be very important if you want to progress with your learning.

  • What do I need to join the programme?

    All students are required to carry out a pre-course assessment. If we think you need more time before progressing to GCSE Maths, you will be placed on a stepping stone pre-GCSE Maths qualification which will enable you to improve your numeracy skills.

  • Is the course delivered at more than one level?

    Bolton College offers GCSE Maths at both Foundation and Higher tiers. Entry for the higher tier is dependent upon your attendance, homework and assessment results over the first part of the course – including the mock exam.

  • How demanding is the course?

    The one-year course at Bolton College is fast-paced and builds on your existing maths knowledge and skills. It will require a firm commitment from you to attend every class and complete a minimum of 3 hours of homework per week.

  • Who teaches the course?

    The course content is delivered by a team of highly experienced maths teachers who will prepare you thoroughly for the qualification.

    Assessment of the GCSE Maths grade is based on 2 exams.

  • Do I need anything before starting the course?

    There is an essential course book which must be purchased before joining the course. Details of this will be provided at your welcome session.

    •  A scientific calculator
    •  The usual mathematical instruments. (You will be advised about these at your assessment / interview.)
  • How do I apply?

    If you're interested in studying Maths with us, your first step is to book onto a 'Welcome' session. You will have the chance to talk to tutors and we will assess your current level of numeracy to ensure you are considered for the right course.
