Our FREE English courses start at beginners then gradually progress to GCSE.
Following an informal assessment, we’ll determine which course is the right fit for you.
We’ll then support you as you gradually acquire essential English skills, helping you to progress towards your ultimate goal – whether this be the skills to support your child, for work or progressing to GSCE!
Courses are available at a range of centres across Bolton, with a selection of days and start times available, so you’ll be sure to find one that fits around your schedule.
You’ll need to complete an informal assessment to see what level you’re at. This is nothing to worry about – it simply ensures that we find the right course for you.
There is an online booking system for assessments and you must book an assessment in advance - you can do this by visiting www.bookwhen.com/adultmathsenglish or by clicking the 'Book an assessment for English or maths' tab below.

I’m studying English as part of my job at Royal Bolton Hospital. I’m really enjoying the course, especially the grammar side of things. I have much more confidence now, both at work when writing reports and at home. I would really like to progress to my English Level 2 next. The qualification will help me to apply to nursing associate and then continue my training to become a staff nurse.
Janet Grundy – English Level 1
I came here because I heard about the good English pass rates. I've had loads of support and the tutors are full of praise. My skills have improved so much that an American website has asked me to write for them.
Becky Keane - English Functional Skills
I moved from Brazil to the UK about a year ago and I’ve worked in a restaurant every since. I got a Degree in Business Administration in Brazil, but I wanted to complete my GCSE in English so I can communicate more confidently and make plans for my future career. I’d like to get a job in Human Resources or in another business area.
Vinicius De Biascie – English Level 1
The tutors at Bolton College have made studying towards my GCSE an enjoyable experience. They’re really helpful, explain our work clearly and always available to provide extra support if required. Next, I’m hoping to complete my GCSE Maths and then go to University to study my Level 4 in Childcare so I can work in schools.
