  • Overview of the course

    Within this course you will develop an intial idea into a 2D or 3D game. You will create visuals to show what the game will look like, as well as a design specification that documents all aspects of the game. You will then create the assets for the game engine and add interaction to make a playable game.

  • What you'll learn

    - Describe different types of computer games and their features
    - Explain how different components are used in the desgin of a computer game
    - Design a computer game with a storyline, characters and gameplay
    - Produce a design specifiation in an appropriate format
    - create an asset list
    - edit game assets considering file formats, types and naming conventions
    - render and import assets into a game engine
    - Develop a computer game for a specific platform using a game engine
    - Test a computer game obtaining feedback from others
    - Review how the game meets the client brief, making recommendations for future improvements
    - Describe how performance could be developed
  • Entry requirements

    Completion of Level 1 Games Design and Development Award or evidence of experience creating game design documentation

    You must be 19+
    Your English language must be good, at Entry 3 or above.

    If you believe that you need to work on your digital skills first before applying for the course, there are opportunities to take a Basic Digital skills course or Entry 3 Essential Digital Skills qual.

    Assessment


    All learners will complete an individual learning plan which will be discussed with their tutor throughout the course.
