  • Overview of the course

    This course is a progression route from Level 2 Nail Services and will enable you to become a qualified nail technician. This one year course covers a wide range of both theoretical and practical aspects of Nail Services. The course will include all aspects of nail extensions including acrylic and gel sculptured nails, silk and fibreglass extensions and coloured acrylics.
    This course is designed for learners who desire a career in Nail Technology and want the option of working in salons, spas, health farms, cruise liners, freelance and many more.
  • What you'll learn

    You will learn the following: health and safety, promote additional services to clients, contribute to the financial effectiveness of the business, enhance the appearance of natural nails using artificial nail systems including sculptured gel and acrylic, tips, fibreglass, gel overlays, maintain and repair nails.
    Guest speakers will demonstrate advanced nail techniques to enhance your skills. All students will enter national competitions throughout the year. Work experience is also a vital and essential part of the course.
  • Entry requirements

    Learners must demonstrate a commitment to learn and have the appropriate life skills.
    A Level 2 Nail Therapy qualification or manicure certificate.
    Good dexterity skills are paramount and this will be with a skills test.
    You will need to enjoy working with other people and co-operate as part of a team. You need to be committed and keen to practice as you learn new skills.

    Entry is through a personal interview.
  • How will I be assessed?

    You will be assessed while working in the college salons on real clients. The practical tasks are assessed and your achievements will be recorded in your logbook. There are written tests and oral questions to assess knowledge and assignment work for certain aspects of the course. Records of all the work undertaken should be kept to provide evidence of competence. These will form the basis of your portfolio. The practical assessments will be graded pass, merit or distinction.

    The course begins in September, finishes in June and is one night per week.
    Tuition and certification are free if you are aged 16-18 years old. Related additional costs may include visits and extra external professional development courses, which are payable by all students. You will attend college two evenings and a Saturday morning for the academic year

    The Nail industry has an accepted dress code and all students will be expected to comply with these standards of dress when working in the Nail Salon. No jewellery or acrylic nails are allowed by the exam board. Professional work wear will include a black tunic (approx. £29) and full smart full-length black trousers and black full shoes. You will purchase the stationery and file kits at approximately £6.
    Also you will need a Level 3 Nail Kit which will be discussed at interview to keep prices competitive.

    As part of your practical assessments, you will perform practical treatments on clients. Learners will be equally responsible for providing clients and they will incur a college fee, with discounted rates for friends and family. You will be required to carry out treatments on clients, this is an awarding body requirements.
    You will be expected to have a minimum of 90% attendance and all absences must be explained to your tutor with medical evidence if there is more than one week of absence.

    Coronavirus Update


    In response to the COVID-19 situation we have made a number of changes to our traditional admissions and enrolment processes.
    All conditional offers and enrolments are currently being processed based on the information available to us at the time of a telephone interview and/or online enrolment.
    Once a course starts and we are able to meet with learners in person we may need to alter the class an individual attends if they do not meet the course entry requirements. We will keep learners informed of any decision to alter their class and support them through any changes necessary.

    Assessment


    All learners will complete an individual learning plan which will be discussed with their tutor throughout the course.

    Financial


    You may not have to pay tuition fees at all, if you fall into one of the groups eligible for fee exemptions. If you feel you may be eligible or would like someone to explain course fees in more detail, pleasecontact us via our Live Chat service available on any page of our website.

    Adult Learners


    Adult learners (19+) must provide evidence of their existing qualification at enrolment. Learners may not be able to enrol if this information is not provided when requested. If you have lost any certificates please contact your school in the first instance. If they are unable to provide a copy, you can contact one of the following exam boards (your school will be able to tell you which one applies to the exams you took):
