Do you want to improve your English and maths skills? Maybe you want to provide more help and guidance to your children when helping them with their homework? Or you may want to apply for a new job, but don’t have the English and maths qualifications required?

Whatever your reason, and whatever stage you’re at, you could benefit from getting a nationally recognised qualification at Bolton College. We offer a range of options to help you improve your English and maths skills and ALL English and maths courses are FREE if you haven't got a Grade C or above at GCSE:

  • 8 Week Introductory Courses - If you're not sure where to start, we deliver introductory courses in the heart of your community. These will boost your confidence and improve your skills, all within a welcoming setting.
  • Improve Your English/Maths - Eases you back into education, building your confidence.
  • Functional Skills Entry Level – Suitable for beginners with flexible learning to build your confidence.
  • Functional Skills Level 1 – Ideal for refreshing your English and maths skills, helping you to progress on to GCSEs, further education or employment.
  • Functional Skills Level 2 - to develop skills even further in order to be able to progress on to GCSE, further education or employment.
  • GCSE - giving you the standard qualification required by most employers and further and higher education establishments.


Our classes run in the morning, the afternoon and the evening so you can choose to attend College at a time that best suits your schedule. We teach from our main campus on Deane Road and our Community Learning Centres in Brownlow Fold, Deane & Derby and New Bury.
