Access to HE Diploma in Science

This one year, full-time course will help you achieve the qualification you need to gain entry to a degree course at university then a career as a pharmacist, paramedic scientist, medical technician, operating department practitioner, orthotics operative, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, radiotherapist and more.

You will study the following academic modules:
• Biology
• Physics
• Chemistry

These modules then contain a variety of units, including:
• Organisation of the Body
• Analytical Chemistry
• Physics of the Senses

In addition, you’ll study a selection of developmental skills units that underpin the research, essay writing, study and critical skills required for this course, and which will support your future academic studies at university.

You will need English and Maths GCSE at grades 9-4 (A-C) as well as a Grade C/4 or above in GCSE Science prior to enrolling on this course.

You may also need additional GCSEs if they’re required for entry to your chosen university course, so you’re advised to investigate potential university progression routes to establish the specific entry requirements they may require.

You’ll be assessed in a variety of ways including essays, presentations, timed assignments and workbooks. Although there is no formal examination, you are expected to work on assignments in your own time as part of directed study.

This course is highly demanding, both academically and in terms of demands on your time.

You will have four taught sessions per week, equating to approximately 10 hours of contact time in College.

In addition, you’ll be expected to participate in independent study to prepare for future lessons and assignments, and it’s advisable that you also have in place suitable vocationally-specific workplace experience, as this will enhance your university application.

Many of our learners progress to undergraduate degrees at local and national universities in science subjects, for example, single honours degrees in biology, physics or chemistry.

Assessment

All learners will complete an individual learning plan which will be discussed with their tutor throughout the course.

Financial

Adult Learners

Adult learners (19+) must provide evidence of their existing qualification at enrolment. Learners may not be able to enrol if this information is not provided when requested. If you have lost any certificates please contact your school in the first instance.
