Bolton College’s Callum Stamp has been named ‘Best Young Commercial Make-up Artist’ in the UK.

Callum, one of the College’s Make-up Artistry students, travelled to the NEC Birmingham for the National Finals of WorldSkills UK.

80,000 visitors watched as more than 500 apprentices and students competed across 70 disciplines, battling to be named the best in the UK.

Callum, aged 17, won the regional heats in October and took fellow student and model Raesa Kaduji to the finals, along with Bolton College Hair & Make-up Lecturer Ella Arscott, who has supported Callum throughout.

Callum’s unique interpretation on the theme of ‘Going Viral’ saw him secure first place in the category of ‘Commercial Make-up’.

Talented Callum, who has over 1,000 followers on his Instagram account Makeup by Callum is hoping to become a professional Make-up Artist in New York.

Bolton College, which is part of the University of Bolton Group, delivers Make-up Artistry study programmes in its professional beauty rooms, open to members of the public.

Ben Blackledge, Deputy CEO of WorldSkills UK, said: “This is a life-changing moment for these young people. They have already won regional competitions and now their National Finals – they are the new generation of high flyers that will give UK employers a competitive edge.

“We couldn’t be prouder of each and every one of them – the standard of competition could not have been higher.”

Callum said: “I'm so happy to have won, it's going to take a while to sink in.”

Ella Arscott said: “Callum has worked extremely hard at his craft and it’s paid off. He competed against some amazing artists so to be named top in the country is an unbelievable achievement. Well done to Callum, and also to Raesa, who has supported him throughout his journey.”

Bill Webster, Principal of Bolton College, added: “Callum is one to watch; he is immensely talented and we are so pleased that his skills have now been recognised nationally.

Ella has really championed Callum and we are so pleased that as a College, we have been able to help him fulfil his potential. I have no doubt that in a few years, Callum will have achieved his ambitions, and will be working as a top Make-up Artist in New York.”
