Improving essential skills such as reading, writing, Maths and spoken English - can help you achieve far more out of life. Our Skills for Life and Work classes give you the opportunity to improve these skills and gain qualifications that show just how good you are.

  • Brush-up on or improve your reading, writing or numeracy skills.
  • Gain confidence before starting a course.
  • Improve your employment prospects by learning how to complete an application form, prepare a CV, or write an eye-catching letter for a new job.

‘Skills for life and Work’ has transformed the lives of many of our learners, giving them the skills and confidence to enjoy life to the full – at both home and work.

Our classes are small and friendly – and FREE (except for ESOL classes). They are available during the day or evening, at a variety of venues throughout Bolton. Courses are tailored to your needs and your tutor will encourage you to work on whichever skill areas you want to develop.

In the workplace

‘Skills for Life and Work’ provide literacy and numeracy training and qualifications to enhance the skills of the workforce – increasing productivity, efficiency and competence.

We work in partnership with employers and union bodies to:

  • Carry out a ‘training needs analysis’ (to identify learner needs and training solutions).
  • Offer relevant information, advice and guidance.
  • Provide experienced and professional workplace tutors.
  • Provide flexible training built around a student’s time and venue (shift-working patterns).
  • Coach and mentor students in small and friendly classes – often for FREE.
  • Offer courses leading to a nationally recognised qualification – with progression to further learning if required.

Training courses

Disability Awareness, Supporting People with Learning Difficulties and Disabilities, Advocacy and Mental Health Awareness - these accredited courses will be offered at various local learning centres and will enable people to gain the skills and knowledge necessary to offer effective support to people with varying disabilities. They are suitable for anyone with an interest in this area and for those wanting to gain employment.
