What You'll Learn
You’ll learn how to assess, remove, and refit damaged mechanical, electrical, and trim components, including engines, gearboxes, suspension systems, and safety-critical features such as airbags and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). You’ll also gain experience in vehicle diagnostics, interpreting technical data, and using specialist tools and equipment.
The course covers:
Vehicle diagnostics and fault-finding
Electrical and mechanical system repairs
Handling of high-voltage and hybrid systems
Use of diagnostic and calibration tools
Health and safety in the bodyshop environment
Customer service and quality control
You’ll also be trained in refrigerant handling in line with EC842/2006 regulations

How Will I Be Assessed?
You’ll be assessed throughout the apprenticeship through practical observations, written assignments, and a portfolio of evidence. Your college tutor and employer will help you track your progress and prepare for your final assessment.
At the end of the programme, you’ll complete an End Point Assessment (EPA), which includes:
A practical skills assessment
A professional discussion
A review of your portfolio
These assessments confirm your competence and readiness to work independently as a qualified MET Technician

Entry Requirements
You will need a grade 4 or above in either Maths or English with a commitment to achive the remainder while on the course ready for your End Point assessment. a strong interest in automotive refinishing and a commitment to learning and an employer who is willing to support you through your training.

After completing this apprenticeship, you’ll be qualified to work as a MET Technician, Bodyshop Technician, or Vehicle Damage Assessor. You may also choose to specialise in electric vehicles, ADAS calibration, or progress to a supervisory or technical training role.
