Intermediate Therapeutic Arts for Health and Wellbeing
This is a discrete course for adults referred with a wide range of mental health difficulties. Most learners completed a basic Creative Crafts for Health and Wellbeing course before joining this course.
You will learn how to express yourself through your artwork in order to develop coping strategies, stress management, and to strengthen a sense of identity. You will develop your employability skills through participating in a community enterprise project. Each project will enable you to connect with others and make positive steps for a better wellbeing. You will also develop your English and maths skills in preparation for progression onto higher independence, mainstream and Community Learning courses, and voluntary and paid work.

Overview

What You'll Learn
What can I expect to learn?
You will cover the following course outcomes:
LO 1 Create at least 1 meaningful piece of mixed media craftwork to motivate and inspire you to feel positive.
1.1 Select and label at least 4 images of mixed media craftwork that make you feel positive. Please include materials and techniques used and state how each image makes you feel.
1.2 Create a range of at least 4 mixed media samples. Use positive colours, imagery and text (optional).
1.3 Using at least 2 of your mixed media samples create at least 1 meaningful piece of mixed media craftwork to motivate and inspire you to feel positive.
LO 2 Design and create at least 2 greeting cards or gifts to give to a friend or family member in order to stimulate the reward areas in your brain and to create positive feelings.
2.1 Select and label at least 3 professional greeting cards or gifts. Please include materials and techniques used.
2.2 Select the appropriate materials to design and create at least 2 greeting cards or gifts.
2.3 Write at least 1 positive message on a card or gift tag and give to a friend or family member.
2.4 Explain how the act of giving to others made you feel.
LO 3 Work as a team to set up your own Art Exhibition and Enterprise Stall in Brownlow Fold’s Café.
3.1 Identify and present skills and achievements you have developed through your Advanced Arts and Crafts course.
3.2 Select at least 2 pieces of artwork and work as a team to display them in the Art Exhibition.
3.3 Price-up and prepare to sell at least 1 piece of artwork.
3.4 Select and note a charity of your choice that any proceeds will go to. Explain your choice.
3.5 Identify and demonstrate how your mental wellbeing has improved through working and connecting with others and completing the various art projects.

How Will I Be Assessed?
As this is a non-accredited course (not a qualification) you will work towards a college certificate of achievement by passing all your agreed learning outcomes.
Entry Requirements
To join the course you MUST be 19 or over with an interest and commitment to improving your overall health and wellbeing. Regular attendance and a basic level of English skills are also required of all learners.
