Community Interpreters – Find Out About
This short course will offer a glimpse into the skills required of a community interpreter. You will learn about the importance of teamwork, interpersonal skills that are essential for an interpreter and you will look at how language is used and the barriers that people might face. This is a two-session course which is interactive and fun and will give you an overview of what you will study on the full level 1 and level 2 pathway. You will also complete a short assessment to check suitability for the level 1 or level 2 pathway.

How Will I Be Assessed?
You will agree an individual learning plan (ILP) with your tutor identifying areas of development you need in order to meet the Open Awards Learning Outcomes for the course. You will build up a folder of work which shows the range of skills and knowledge you have developed. You will receive supportive feedback throughout the course and track your progress through your Individual Learning Plan.
Entry Requirements
To join the course, you must have a good level of spoken and written English. Suggested Entry level 3 English skills. However, speak with the tutor if you are in any doubt about your level.

Future Opportunities
If successful after the assessment, you may progress on to the Ascentis Level 1 Award ‘Understanding Community Interpreting’. In some circumstances, if learners have prior experience and are at the correct level, you may be offered a place on the Level 2 Certificate ‘The Role of the Community Interpreter’. If learners are not at the correct level, they will be signposted to either a bridging course, an ESOL class or an English class.
