What You'll Learn
You’ll learn how to interpret technical drawings, use digital modelling tools such as CAD and BIM, and assist in the preparation of design proposals and construction documentation. The course also covers project management, sustainability, health and safety, and building regulations.
In addition to technical knowledge, you’ll develop strong communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills—essential for working effectively in multidisciplinary construction teams and supporting project delivery.

How Will I Be Assessed?
You’ll be assessed throughout the apprenticeship through a combination of practical tasks, written assignments, and a portfolio of evidence. Your college tutor and employer will support you in developing your skills and tracking your progress.
At the end of the programme, you’ll complete an End Point Assessment (EPA). This includes a work-based project, a professional discussion, and a review of your portfolio to demonstrate your competence and readiness to work independently as a construction design and build technician.

Entry Requirements
There are no formal qualifications needed to start the Construction Design and Build Technician Level 4 Apprenticeship—just a strong interest in construction, design, and project coordination. This programme is ideal for individuals who are detail-oriented, organised, and eager to work in a technical role within the built environment.
However, some employers may set their own entry requirements, such as specific GCSEs, A-levels, or a relevant Level 3 qualification. If you have not yet achieved a GCSE Grade 4/C (or equivalent) in English and Maths, you will be required to complete Functional Skills Level 2 in these subjects as part of your apprenticeship. Don’t worry—support will be provided to help you achieve these essential qualifications alongside your technical training.
