Bolton College
School Leavers' Enrolment
newstudentsday 070717-37

We are delighted that you will be joining us in September. We are confident that the course or Apprenticeship you have chosen will provide you with the skills and qualifications you need to eventually gain employment. We are proud of the support we offer our learners so if you need extra help, don't be afraid to ask your tutor. The information below is all about what you need to do to complete your enrolment.

Who can enrol?

Adults (aged 19+) and young people (aged 16-18 years old) can enrol at Bolton College.

Adults can enrol at any of our College locations (see www.boltoncollege.ac.uk/contact-us for hub details). Young people need to enrol at our Deane Road campus.

Please check the times below before you enrol.

School Leavers enrol around GCSE results day in August. Anyone aged 17+ anot not awaiting exam results can usually enrol from the beginning of June.

What do I need to bring with me to enrol?

You will need to bring your exam results to enrol. If you have just taken your GCSE’s you can collect your results slip from your school. If you have taken GCSEs and don’t bring your results with you, we won’t be able to complete your enrolment and you will need to return on another day.

What will happen when I arrive at College to enrol?

Whilst each person will have a slightly different enrolment experience, every person will need to;

  1. Meet with a tutor to complete a Study Programme Form
  2. Visit our maths & English team to discuss how you will continue to develop these vital skills
  3. Sit with an Enrolment Officer to get your results copied and collect your College ID

Is there anything else I may need to do before I enrol?

If you haven’t already taken an Initial Assessment (BKSB) you will need to do this during enrolment time, this assessment can take quite a long time to complete so we would encourage you to take this assessment before Thursday 23rd August. All students have to sit this assessment. It’s nothing to worry about and it won’t stop you from getting onto the course you want. The assessment just helps us to decide if you will require any extra support.

To book your assessment before August, please visit www.bookwhen.com/initialassessments

How long will my enrolment take?

The college will be very busy during enrolment. If you arrive at the right time (see list below) we’ll work hard to get you enrolled within two hours but it could take longer.  If you need to sit the initial assessment, please allow at least an extra 1.5 hours to complete your enrolment (see above for how you can sit your assessment before you enrol).

When will my course start?

Our term starts on Monday 10th September and your classes will start during this week. However, your Induction Day is on Saturday 8th September and you are expected to attend this event.

Is there anything else I need to do between now and enrolling?

Firstly complete your exams to the best of your ability, and then give yourself a well-deserved break!

If you have been offered a place at College you should have already received your invite to attend our New Student Day on Thursday 12th July. This event will allow you to get to know the building and the staff at Bolton College before your course starts. We’ve also organised lots of fun activities and a free lunch!
If you haven’t received your invite please give us a quick call on 01204 482 000 or 482 155 and we will reserve you a place.

If you havent already booked your place, please visit click here - you will need your college ID number from your offer email.

Who can I talk to about financial support?

Want to know more about the College Bursary Scheme? Click here to find out more.
If you meet the criteria specified please call our Student Services Centre on 01204 482 182 to request a 16-18 Student Financial Support Application Form. Forms will be sent out in August. Alternatively, you can pop into our Deane Road Campus and collect a form after In August

Who do I talk to about my support needs?

If you have a learning difficulty or disability and haven’t already told the College it is really important that you tell us as soon as possible.

Telling us early will give us time to talk to you about your needs and get them in place ready for your first class. You, or your parent/carer, can give our Learning Support Team a call on 01204 482 669 or 482 670.
