Apprenticeships: Learn, Earn, and Grow

An apprenticeship is a paid job that combines hands-on work with structured learning. You’ll gain real experience, earn a wage, and study toward a recognised qualification - all while building a clear career path. Apprenticeships are available in many industries, from construction to digital technology. At least 20% of your time is set aside for learning, and you’ll receive holiday pay too. Whether you're starting out or changing careers, apprenticeships offer valuable skills and strong job prospects for the future

Apprenticeships offer a practical, career-focused route into work - combining paid employment with structured training.

You’ll earn a salary, gain valuable hands-on experience, and work towards a nationally recognised qualification with Bolton College, all without paying tuition fees or building up student debt.

Available across a wide range of industries - from construction and healthcare to digital marketing and engineering - apprenticeships suit school leavers, career changers, and those looking to upskill. Programmes range from level 2 to level 4 providing clear progression and long-term career opportunities. At least 20% of your time is dedicated to learning, either in a classroom, online, or through practical training tailored to your role. Many apprentices go on to secure permanent positions, and employers benefit too - gaining skilled, motivated staff and access to government support.

Whether you’re starting your career or looking to grow within your current field, apprenticeships offer a flexible and rewarding way to develop your skills and future.

Once you’ve chosen the apprenticeship you want, it’s time to start looking for an employer or vacancy. Check out our current apprenticeship vacancies below, and we’ll invite you for a friendly initial assessment. To boost your chances, regularly search job sites, company websites, and social media. Don’t forget to contact recruitment agencies - they can help you find the perfect role.

Keep your CV up-to-date and tailored to showcase your skills and experience. Always include a covering letter that grabs the employer’s attention and explains why you’re the right person for the apprenticeship. Need help? Our Apprenticeships Guide offers tips on writing great CVs and covering letters.

After applying, follow up after one week. If you don’t get the role, don’t worry! Ask for feedback to improve for next time.

When you get an interview, prepare by researching the company and practising common questions. Plan your journey to arrive on time and confident.

Found an employer? Let us know! We’ll confirm your details and secure your place on the course, so you can start gaining up-to-date training and a nationally-recognised qualification.

‘Where employers meet talent’

Bolton College Job Shop is a resource for employers to share vacancies they are currently recruiting for. Vacancies are displayed on the College’s vacancies pages as well as on the interactive screens located in the heart of our Job Shop, access by our students and members of the public.

Applicants interested in any of the vacancies will be able to apply using the Job Shop’s computers. Vacancies will also be shared with Bolton College’s talent pool – students who have already expressed an interest in a vacancy and are seeking work.

Employers can also liaise with the Job Shop’s Employer Engagement Advisors to identify gaps in their recruitment and/or workforce. Working together, learning opportunities will be identified from the College’s course offer, thereby addressing and helping to close any skills gaps.
