What Parents & Carers can expect
At the start of the year your son or daughter will receive an induction into their course and the College community. The aim of induction is to:
- Inspire learners and motivate them to do well
- Create a sense of belonging to the College community
- Introduce them to their programme of learning and their tutors
- Enable them to find their way around College, and introduce them to the support and resources that are available to them
Throughout the Course
As your son or daughter progresses throughout the year, they can expect:
- A high quality learning programme delivered by well-qualified and experienced staff
- Regular meetings with their Personal Tutor to discuss progress
- Opportunities to express their views about their course and college
- Written work and assignments returned promptly, with written feedback that helps them in their studies
- Access to confidential counselling and welfare services
- Help with careers advice and guidance
What does College Expect of Your Son / Daughter?
Your son or daughter needs to follow the Code of Conduct and we expect them to:
- Attend regularly and punctually, and to notify tutors of any absence immediately
- Show respect to others, regardless of their ethnic background, gender, age, religion, sexual orientation or personal circumstances
- Show respect for others’ property
- Work hard to achieve their goals
- Uphold the no smoking policy
- Use respectful language in and around College
What can Parents/Carers expect from Bolton Community College?
If your son or daughter is 18 or under you can expect:
- To receive regular progress reviews
- At least one parent’s evening each year
- To be contacted by tutors if there are any issues relating to your son or daughter’s progress which are causing concern
- An opportunity to provide feedback on the College, both informally and by participating in the annual parental survey.
How Parents can support their son/daughter at College
This can be achieved by:
- Encouraging your son or daughter throughout their course
- Ensuring they attend all classes, tutorials and associated activities
- Avoid taking your son or daughter out of college during term time
- Supporting them in completing their work on time and preparation for their assessments and examinations
- A telephone call, e-mail or letter if you are concerned about their performance or progress;
- Showing support for College staff in the enforcement of essential rules and regulations - including most specifically, equality & diversity health and safety, bullying and the use of illegal drugs and alcohol
- Completion of satisfaction surveys in order to support the College to continually monitor and where necessary improve the service provided
