Teaching Assistants

1866_2060

Our Apprenticeship course in Supporting Teaching & Learning in Schools is designed for learning support staff in schools.

It allows you to gain recognised qualifications and develop skills and training relevant to employment while you earn. You’ll come to college, but most of your training will be delivered on the job and you’ll be paid while completing your Apprenticeship.

You will work under the direction of a teacher who has overall responsibility for teaching and learning in the classroom. The tasks you undertake in a support role will vary, but might include:

  • Supervising arts and crafts activities
  • Helping with outings
  • Reading to the class

Teaching Assistant training will help you develop the organisational and practical skills necessary to plan lessons, carry out and evaluate activities and work with small groups of individuals.

We offer both Intermediate and Advanced Apprenticeships so you can choose the level of training which is appropriate to your skills and experience.

Examples of jobs held by Apprentices at the Intermediate level include:

  • Teaching Assistant
  • Classroom Assistant
  • Learning Support Assistant
  • Advanced Level Apprenticeship
  • Teaching / Classroom / Learning Support Assistant
  • Pastoral / Welfare Support Assistant
  • Behaviour Support Co-ordinator
  • Bilingual Support Assistant

You'll study at our Deane Road Campus in Bolton town centre, which is easily accessible from surrounding areas such as Manchester and Lancashire – so wherever your work is based you can still take advantage of studying a Supporting Teaching & Learning in Schools course with state-of-the-art facilities at Bolton College.
