Roof Slating & Tiling
Students undertaking Apprenticeship training in Roof Slating & Tiling enjoy the very best setting for learning in our spacious state of the art facility. It allows you to benefit from studying in modern classrooms and purpose-built workshops that enable you to develop the skills necessary for you to excel in your job role.
Our facilities also feature interactive whiteboards, learning resource centres equipped with fully networked computers and social areas where you can enjoy a bite to eat and drink between studies.
Courses for apprenticeships are typically delivered on a block-release basis, which means you spend one week a month learning the knowledge that supports your Apprenticeship and the remaining working days with your employer.
Our qualified assessors visit you in your workplace and support you in developing a portfolio of evidence that demonstrates your competence in your job. The recent introduction of our e-portfolio helps you to capture your evidence from industry and import it into your portfolio which can be sent electronically to your college assessor.
Portfolio building sessions are included in your day and involve meeting your assessor and discuss the contents of your portfolio and the evidence you have collected. During the sessions, you will also generate an action plan to support and guide you in the completion of this portfolio
As a student on our Roof Slating & Tiling course you will study a range of skills and techniques including:
- Health & safety
- Care use and maintenance of roof slating & tiling tools
- Knowledge of roof slating & tiling tasks
- Reading construction drawing and plans
- Manufacture of roof slating & tiling models
- Personal protective equipment
- Safe use of portable power tools
- Handling and storage of materials and equipment
Fully qualified teaching staff deliver the learner focused programme supplemented by regular guest speakers and trade professionals who will bring of real life industrial insight to the course.
It commences at Level 2 and takes two academic years to complete. As part of the Apprenticeship framework, you also study functional skills in English and Maths.
All our Roof Slating & Tiling courses are taught at our Deane Road Campus in the heart of Bolton town centre. The campus is conveniently located for students travelling from Manchester and Lancashire.
