An Apprenticeship in Childcare at Bolton College enables you to acquire recognised qualifications and develop workplace skills while you earn. Most of your training takes place on the job and you'll be paid a minimum wage. You will attend college for a couple of hours each week to do key skills in communication, numeracy and ICT.

Each Apprenticeship is exclusively tailored to your training needs because it is based around your daily tasks and duties. A Childcare Apprenticeship could focus on helping you to develop skills in:

  • Paediatric first aid
  • Child development
  • Child psychology
  • Learning through play

The childcare training will increase your understanding of the ‘hows?’ and ‘whys?’ of child development, and give an insight into putting childcare theory into practice.

We offer both Intermediate and Advanced Apprenticeships so you can choose the level of training which is best suited to your skills and experience.

Examples of jobs held by Childcare Apprentices include:

Intermediate Level Apprenticeship

  • Early Years Worker/Assistant
  • Assistant Youth Support & Community Worker

Advanced Level Apprenticeship

  • Nursery Worker/Supervisor
  • Childminder
  • Nursery Nurse / Nursery Teaching Assistant

Attaining an Advanced Apprenticeship in Childcare can help further your career and is particularly relevant for anyone with ambitions to progress towards Nursery Management.

You'll study at our Deane Road Campus in Bolton town centre, which is easily accessible from surrounding areas such as Manchester and Lancashire – so wherever your work is based you can still take advantage of studying a childcare course with state of the art facilities at Bolton College.
