Carpentry & Joinery
Students undertaking an Apprenticeship in Carpentry & Joinery enjoy a first rate setting for learning in our new, state-of-the-art facility. This enables you to benefit from spacious classrooms and purpose built workshops where you acquire the skills and training necessary for you to excel in your job.
Our facilities also include interactive whiteboards, learning resource centres with networked computers and social areas for you to enjoy a bite to eat and drink between studies.
Courses for Apprenticeships are typically delivered as part of a day-release arrangement, where you will spend one day a week learning the knowledge related to your Apprenticeship and the rest of the working week with your employer.
Our qualified assessors visit you in your workplace and support you in developing a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate your competence.
The recent introduction of our e-portfolio will help you capture your evidence from industry and import it into your portfolio which can then be sent electronically to your college assessor.
There are also portfolio building sessions as part of your day which involve meeting your assessor to discuss the contents of your portfolio, the evidence you have collected and also to create an action plan to help you complete your portfolio
As a student on our Carpentry and Joinery course you will study skills and techniques such as:
- Health & safety
- Care use and maintenance of carpentry hand tools
- Knowledge of woodwork joints
- Reading construction drawing and plans
- Manufacture of window frames
- Personal protective equipment
- Safe use of portable power tools
- Fixtures of skirting and architraves
- Handling and storage of materials and equipment
Fully qualified and extensively experienced staff deliver the learner focused programme, complemented by guest speakers and trade professionals who bring a wealth of first-hand insight to the course.
The course commences at Level 2 and takes two academic years to complete. As part of the apprenticeship framework, you will also study functional skills in English and Maths.
All our Carpentry & Joinery courses are taught at our Deane Road Campus in the heart of Bolton town centre. The campus is conveniently located for students travelling from Manchester and Lancashire.
