An apprenticeship in Brickwork enrolling at Bolton College means you enjoy a second-to-none environment for learning in our new, state-of-the-art facility. This includes modern classrooms and purpose-built workshops that enable you to acquire the skills and training necessary to excel in your job.

Our facilities also feature interactive whiteboards, learning resource centres equipped with networked computers, and social areas where you can enjoy a bite to eat and drink between studies.

Courses for apprenticeships are usually delivered on a day-release basis where you will spend one day a week learning the underpinning knowledge related to your apprenticeship, and the rest of the working week with your employer.

Our qualified assessors visit you in your workplace and support you in developing a portfolio of evidence that will demonstrate your competence in your job role.

The recent introduction of our e-portfolio will help you capture your evidence from industry and import it into your portfolio which can then be sent electronically to your college assessor for them to review.

There are also portfolio building sessions as part of your day. These involve meeting your assessor to discuss the contents of your portfolio, the evidence you have collected and to generate an action plan to help you to complete your portfolio.

As a student on our Brickwork course you will study a range of skills and techniques including:

  • Health and safety
  • Care, use and maintenance of brickwork tools
  • Knowledge of brickwork tasks
  • Reading construction drawing and plans
  • Manufacture of brickwork models
  • Personal protective equipment
  • Safe use of portable power tools
  • Handling and storage of materials and equipment

Fully qualified and experience teaching staff will deliver the learner focused programme, fully supported by regular guest speakers and trade specialists who bring a wealth of real life industrial experience to the course.

The course commences at Level 2 and takes two academic years to complete. As part of the apprenticeship framework, you also study functional skills in English and Maths

All our Brickwork courses are taught at our Deane Road Campus in the heart of Bolton town centre. The campus is conveniently located for students travelling from Manchester and Lancashire.
