Education & Teacher Training
Teaching in the post-schools sector
Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS)
This is a Higher Education Award which can be achieved at Level 5 or Level 6 and is run in partnership with the University of Bolton. The DTLLS is the required full qualification for those who wish to teach in the post-school ‘lifelong learning sector’ (i.e, Further Education colleges, Sixth Form colleges, adult and community education, work-based learning, etc.) The course is partly classroom based and partly work based.
Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS)
This is a Higher Education Award at Level 4. PTLLS is an introductory award. It can be completed without any previous teaching experience. It is designed to equip teachers and trainers with the basics of teaching and learning. It is also the starting point (12 credits) towards the new full teaching qualification for teaching in the lifelong learning sector (DTLLS) but can be completed as a ‘stand-alone’ Level 4 qualification.
Classroom Teaching Assistants in schools
Foundation Degree for Teaching Assistants (Primary School)
This is a Higher Education Award at level 5 and is run in partnership with the University of Bolton. Foundation Degrees are higher education qualifications that combine academic study with work-based learning. Designed jointly by universities, colleges and employers, they are available in a range of work-related subjects. Foundation Degree courses are designed for a particular area of work with the help of employers from that sector.
Note – teaching in schools
It is important that you know that there are currently two separate qualifications for qualified teacher status in the UK. If you wish to teach in schools education (i.e. teach children in compulsory education from ages 5-16), this comes under the UK government Department for Education. Information about teaching in schools and the qualification required can be found on the Department for Education website. Bolton College is not a provider of this qualification so we are unable to help you further if you wish to teach in schools.
