Police Studies
HND Police Studies
Overview
This course is one of the few courses in Police Studies currently offered in England and Wales. It is designed for students considering a career in the Police Service, or a profession allied to Policing.
The engaging and stimulating course provides you with the skills required for a successful career in the Police Service, although it does not guarantee entry to the Police Service because you are still required to satisfy force recruitment requirements.
Students are also be encouraged to apply for the position of Special Constable, or other volunteering roles.
Entry requirements
Candidates must meet one of the following criteria:
- A recognised Level 3 programme (preferably in public services but not essential);
- Two A Levels at grade A to C with a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade A to C
- Experience in the Police or security industry, for learners aged over 18

- Ethics
- Criminology
- Psychology
How much work is involved?
This two-year course is taught at Bolton College. It is delivered over 2.5 days per week, with two days for students to complete self-study and volunteering to develop their learning and development on the programme.
Assessment is through written assignments, tests, presentations and case studies, and reflection. Extensive use of practical case studies will aid your understanding and achievement.
What can I do with this qualification?
On completion of this course you could pursue a career in the Police Service or related profession, or progress to a top up degree programme at University.
