Sports & Fitness
Our Vocational Sport, Exercise & Fitness courses provide young people with the opportunity to develop the practical knowledge and skills to work in areas such as Sports coaching, Fitness Instructing & Health Promotion.
All our Sports learners study a broad span of units on their courses, covering topics to develop their understanding of:
- Anatomy and physiology of body systems
- Fitness testing and analysing results
- Sports development and current issues in sport
- Fitness training and programmes
- Psychology for sports performance
- Health & safety: Assessing risks and hazards in sport
- Coaching and leading sports activities
- Practical sport and exercise participation
- Healthy eating and nutrition for sports performance
We provide opportunities to study BTEC Sport Diplomas at Level 1, Level 2 (Equal to 4 GCSE’s) and Level 3. The Level 3 ‘Fastrack’ allows our learners to complete 12 units in one year (Equal to 2 A Levels), with a second year option to upgrade to the full Extended Diploma (Equal to 3 A Levels).
Specific courses on offer include our Football Coaching Academy in partnership with Bolton Wanderers to achieve NVQ Level 2 and Level 3, and our NVQ Level 2 Boxing Coaching Academy in partnership with Amir Khan’s Gloves Gym. For gifted boxers, our Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE) programme offers both access to professional coaching while studying BTEC and NVQ qualifications.
Achieving the full-time college qualification, together with practical experience gained from additional Sports Coaching & Fitness instructing awards, allows our learners to progress to more advanced courses, such as degrees, or directly into employment within the sector.
