The engineering industry constantly requires bright and innovative young people to develop fresh ideas. The Motor Vehicle and Fabrication Department is well resourced, kitted out with industry-standard equipment – including high-spec computerised diagnostic tools.

On the Motor Vehicle course you will learn about:

• Foundation skills
• Vehicle construction and routine maintenance
• Operating principles of tyres, brakes, steering & suspension systems
• Operating principles of engines
• Operating principles and maintenance of transmission systems
• Operating principles of electrical & electronic systems.

On the Body & Refinishing course you will learn about:

• Working safely & effectively
• Vehicle paint applications
• Vehicle paint materials
• Vehicle paint equipment
• Vehicle preparation
• Technical information
• Materials
• Forming, joining and materials
• Simple body repairs.

These lists aren't exhaustive and at higher levels other subjects will be included.

There’ll always be demand for skilled motor vehicle experts, especially with car ownership increasing every year. By studying on one of the Motor Vehicle courses at Bolton College, you could be looking at a career in:

We offer courses at many levels:  Level 1 ABC Diploma, Level 1 IMI (Institute of Motor Industry) Technical Awards, Level 2 IMI Technical Certificates and Level 3 IMI Technical Diploma in both Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, and Body and Refinishing. Whatever results you’ve received, we'll be able to find a course suited to you. We have good success rates, and we have a range of support services to help you progress in your learning.

All our Motor Vehicle courses are taught at our Horwich Campus. This site has a car park for students and is in easy reach of motorway and rail networks for students travelling from Manchester and Lancashire.
