Art Showcase 2009

Experience the best new talent...

The seven day exhibition featured work from some of the 900 learners studying across one of the 100 courses the Art department offers. From paintings to floristry, photography, sculptures, and animation, the showcase offered something for everyone.

Some of the key pieces from the exhibition included an array of smoke fired vases and framed pieces by Dawn Hurst and an animation, by Ewelina Wydra. It showed the metamorphosis from ape to modern man, which kept visitors entertained with its comedy style and excellent attention to detail.

As well as showcasing the latest talent, visitors were able to take part in a raffle with art work created by staff up for grabs. Prizes included jewellery, ceramics and pieces of fine art, showing that those who can, teach.

Katy O’Neil, curriculum leader for Visual and Performing Arts, said: “The students at the College are very talented and we are very proud of the pieces they have produced for the show. An incredible amount of time and effort has gone into the exhibition, and the fantastic work on display really shows the imagination and creativity of our students.

“Last year, 96 per cent of students from the BTEC National Diploma in Art and Design progressed to university and we are expecting similar figures this year, showing just how talented and successful our students are.”
