Adult and Higher Education

Higher Education

Did you know that better qualified people earn around 35% more than the average wage? A Higher Education (HE) qualification could offer you a head start in your chosen career - and provide you with a life changing experience at the same time!

If you are thinking about progressing to a Higher Education course, consider our range of HE and professional Level 4 courses. Our partnerships with regional universities and the ‘Progression Accord’ signed with the University of Bolton, means that you can continue on to a degree level course without relocating. Our HE courses include Higher National Certificates, Foundation Degrees and Level 4 NVQs.

Access to Higher Education
Access to Higher Education (HE) courses provide nationally recognised qualifications that are practical alternatives to the traditional A-Level route. They include a range of modules at Level 2 (GCSE equivalent) and Level 3 (A Level equivalent) and the flexible programme of study is ideally suited to adults who want to progress whilst leading busy lives.

Most students looking to progress to university would normally complete a combination of Level 2 and Level 3 modules. A typical Access to HE programme takes one year full time (around 14 hours per week) or one year part time (for students with GCSEs or equivalent qualifications who are only undertaking Level 3 options).

Subject areas include:

  • Health and Social Studies
  • Teaching
  • Humanities and Social Sciences

Access Courses are free to those aged between 19 and 24 who do not already have a full Level 3 qualification. All Access courses require a pre-course interview, which allows you to meet the tutors, discuss various options and create an individual study plan. We offer a range of Level 3 BTEC qualifications (equivalent to 3 A-Levels) plus excellent support for students who are aiming to progress into HE.

Level 2 First Steps Diploma

If you feel you need more confidence before joining an Access to HE course, you might be interested in our new Level 2 First Steps Diploma.
Providing an ideal starting point for adults with few, if any, GCSE level qualifications, the course covers Maths, English and Social Studies. Successful completion will allow you to progress to the Access to HE programme or to focus your studies in a more specialist subject area. Best of all, as part of the Level 2 initiative, all tuition fees are FREE.

GCSEs

GCSE Maths and English are essential qualifications in the workplace and for progression to many higher education courses. We offer specific GCSE or GCSE-equivalent courses in both these subjects at the Manchester Road Centre in the evening.
