If English isn’t your first language, our friendly classes at local centres can help you improve your general skills or provide support if you’re studying another subject.

Before you begin, our ESOL team will meet you to make sure you join at the right level. We have classes for everyone, from beginners in English onwards (Entry 1 to Level 2). You’ll study for national ESOL Skills for Life qualifications, with the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) also available should you want to go on to university.

Citizenship
All our classes contain a ‘Citizenship’ (learning about living in Britain) component and you will also work towards a ‘Speaking and Listening’ exam, which you need for ‘Indefinite Leave to Remain’ or ‘Naturalisation’. Please contact the ESOL office to check what you need for Citizenship.

Course Costs
Adults (aged 19 or over) have to pay course fees, but the fees are very low because of special help from the College. If you are on certain benefits or have a low income, your course may be free. All ESOL students do have to pay an exam fee though.

For more information, please visit the College at Manchester Road, a Local Learning Centre, or contact the ESOL office direct on 01204 907333.
