Hairdressing VRQ Diploma Level 3

Is this course for me?

This course is for anyone who wants to work as a Hairdresser or Hair Stylist who needs specialist skills or more up-to-date techniques in creative cutting, colouring, long hair dressing and business skills. The course is ideal for enthusiastic learners wishing to progress towards senior level positions in the industry.

What jobs in the Hairdressing industry could this qualification lead to?

This course could prepare you for working as a senior stylist, a salon manager, a technical representative, a hairdresser or stylist on cruise ships, or for running your own salon.

What will I learn?

Whilst studying and training, you will experience and participate in a combination of demonstrations, seminars, lectures, tutorials and educational visits as well as 'in house' and external training by leading manufacturers for the hairdressing industry.

Mandatory units

  • Monitor procedures to safely control work operations
  • Promote additional services/products to clients
  • Provide hairdressing consultation services
  • Creatively cut hair using a combination of techniques

Optional units

  • Creatively colour hair
  • Provide colour correction services
  • Creatively dress long hair
  • Creatively set and dress hair
  • Contribute to the planning and implementation of promotional activities

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed on a continual basis. Practical skills will be assessed on clients in a realistic working environment with industrial timings, oral questioning is also used. Theory assessments consist of online testing, assignments and portfolio work.

What qualifications or experience do I need to study this course?

You should have current or recent hairdressing experience. You will need to already have a Level 2 hairdressing qualification or other relevant experience in a salon. Creativity, self motivation, good communication skills and a strong commitment to achieve are keys to success at Level 3.

How much does the course cost? And is there any help available with costs?

If you are aged 19-23:
The government will subsidise some of your costs.
You will need to pay the remaining course fee for each year at £1732.
You will also need to pay £105 for other costs (for example, exam fees).

If you are aged 24 or over:
You will need to pay the full costs of £3345 for the course. Is there anything else I need to know?

The Level 3 Hairdressing Course is delivered in our state of the art Hairdressing Academy which includes 5 large air conditioned studios all designed to provide realistic hairdressing working environments.

An essential part of this demanding course is a work placement in a salon for a minimum of 6 hours per week. Alternatively there is an option to attend the College Academy salon on Saturday mornings. Other key components include: excellent attendance, a good record of punctuality and study, attendance at seminars, shows and competitions. You will be actively encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to enter internal and external hairdressing competitions including the prestigious World Skills and Wella Exposure competions.

You will be expected to provide a Level 3 hairdressing kit (no electrical equipment,) a salon tunic and black covered shoes with a low heel.

It is encouraged and recommended when possible you arrange your own models for assessment purposes.
