The Interview

The College employs the ‘competency based’ interviewing technique which focuses on the following issues:

Because your answers reflect your achievements, skills and experiences within your professional life, competency based interviews provide reliable information about your ability in relation to essential areas of the job description.

How Do I Prepare For My Interview?

There are a number of things that you can do to prepare for your interview including:

  1. Study the job description and person specification to identify the essential requirements of the role.
  2. Think of 2 or 3 situations within the last 12-18 months where you have demonstrated a high level of achievement against some (or all) of the essential elements of the job.
In preparing your examples, think about each situation:
    • How did it arise?
    • What were the key stages?
    • What was your personal contribution?
    • What was the overall result?
    • What did you learn from it?
