College Tutorial Programme

As a full-time student at Bolton Community College, you’ll have a personal tutor to help you settle into the course. Your tutor will meet you every week, and be your first point of contact for
help and support.

All full-time students are members of a Personal Tutor Group. Your personal tutor will check your timetable details, guide you through induction, monitor your attendance and your academic
progress.

Your personal tutor will also help you create an Individual Learning Plan, or ILP. This is a working document that will develop throughout your course. You can use it to:

  • Reflect on your progress
  • Set clear targets for improvement
  • Record your achievements

The idea of the ILP is to help you focus on issues like time management, self-awareness, study skills, where you are now, setting goals for the future and finding out what’s important to you.

Your personal tutor will carefully monitor your progress, and help you with important things like study skills, careers guidance, choosing university courses and health issues. If you have a problem of a personal nature that you feel you can’t discuss with your personal tutor, please contact the Student Services Team or our on-site Counselling Service.

Personal Development Portfolio - You will also be given a Personal Development Portfolio (PDP) which will be used in tutorials, to keep a record of your progress throughout the course.
