Apprenticeships
Bolton College apprentice celebrates an award winning year
Learn new skills. Get paid. Simple as that.
Do you want to find a job but don’t want to stop studying? Or do you dislike the idea of full-time study and want to get some work experience? Either way, an apprenticeship could be the answer. As an apprentice, you’ll start work and earn money at the same time as learning the skills and gaining the qualifications that employers want. It really is the best of both worlds.
As an apprentice you will:
- Earn a decent wage and avoid student debt
- Gain valuable qualifications that employers want
- Learn valuable skills that’ll help you succeed in your chosen career
Can I do an apprenticeship?
More and more people are taking up apprenticeships. In England alone, 240,000 apprentices are undertaking over 180 different apprenticeships. If you live in England and you’re not in full-time education, you could become an apprentice too. Entry requirements are flexible; we look at your practical skills and interests as well as academic achievement. Most importantly, you’ll need to be keen to work and learn.
How do I know its right for me?
The key is to think everything through so you can choose the apprenticeship that’s right for you, rather than picking one at random. If, for example, you enjoy working outdoors, you might want choose an apprenticeship that lets you do that. Your interests and hobbies, talents and skills will also play a part in your decision. Take your time, talk to people you know, or try a careers adviser.
To help you make up your mind, contact companies directly to see if you could get some work experience. This way you can find out what the job would be like - and it can improve your chances of success.
How do I apply?
To apply for an apprenticeship, complete an application form and tick ‘Apprenticeships’. (If you’re not sure whether to opt for a full-time course or an apprenticeship, tick both options). When we get your application, we’ll invite you for an assessment and interview to talk about your options.
